Je me souviens!

“Habitat” is a hand-tufted wool carpet featuring an abstracted, geometric representation of Moshe Safdie’s iconic “Habitat 67” residences in Montréal, Quebec.

Continuing my examination of under-represented Canadian icons and symbols, I chose Safdie’s early work because it is the first piece of Canadian architecture that I ever remember being fascinated by. While I was too young to appreciate the project when my family first visited Montreal, I recollect seeing photos of “Habitat 67” soon afterward, and becoming aware that I had seen something important, and perhaps should have paid better attention at the time.

Made in India, by a Good Weave certified manufacturer, the 6′ x 8′ Habitat carpet is a part of the MADE at Home show, which runs until Feb 12, 2011. It will be available after the show at MADE, and is also available for order, in custom sizes and colour schemes.
