Freaksware

Freaksware was designed for Radiant Dark 2009. The tablewares look back upon the golden era of The Circus with a mixture of nostalgia and horror that perfectly embodies this year's theme of ‘Elegant Corruption’. Under the Big Top, everything was glamourous. Ugly was made beautiful and innocence was corrupted and exploited before our very eyes. The more abhorrent the attraction, the more we were drawn to it, if only to reassure ourselves of our own “normality”. 

Today, in our post-modern, ethically enlightened human state, we condemn the founding fathers of the circus for exploiting our mentally and/or physically different brothers and sisters for entertainment’s sake. Yet, turn on the tv and you can watch the “Half Tonne Man” be removed from his home on a flatbed; change the channel and you can watch live plastic surgery operations or modern medical marvels dissected before your very eyes!
