Canadian Basket Project: Yukon Territories, 2008
The Canadian Basket Project has been underway for two years, and is nearly finished. The baskets are made with scrap textiles painstakingly collected from each province or territory, and they feature the predominant colours of each of the respective flags. Some of the fabrics were collected in person, others were sent by friends, families and strangers across the country. The success (and eventual completion) of the project lies in the hands of kind Canadians, from coast to coast.
The baskets (minus New Brunswick, Nunavut and Labrador) were shown at The Gladstone Hotel's pieceWORK show, with Lemon Collective, in November, 2008. It is hoped that once the series is complete, the baskets will be invited to tour across Canada, one show in each province or territory.
To donate fabric from New Brunswick, Nunavut or Labrador, please email me. Thank you to everyone who participated in this project!
